AnnouncementsLiturgical Year

Holy Week 2022

Holy Week, and especially the Triduum, or sacred Three Days of Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil are the “high holy days” of our faith, and relive the Pascal mystery in symbol, story, and sacred action.

All liturgies will be hybrid, with participation offered both in-building and via Zoom (usual Sunday link, which is here).

RECONCILIATION OF A PENITENT (aka Confession)
can be offered at any time, contact Elizabeth to schedule

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Tuesday, April 12, 6:30 pm
This devotion, offered by the Daughters of the King, recalls the series of events at the end of Jesus’ life, and walks us through the Passion story.

MAUNDY THURSDAY LITURGY
Thursday, April 14, 6:30 pm
This liturgy commemorates Jesus’s command, or “mandatum” to love as he loved. We will wash one another’s feet as a demonstration of this commitment to love and serve, then strip the altar in silence as we enter further into the drama of Holy Week.

GOOD FRIDAY LITURGY
Friday, April 15, 6:30 pm
On Good Friday we respond in prayer and veneration to the story in Holy Scripture of the Lord’s trial, suffering, and death. A special offering will be taken to support the Diocese of Jerusalem. **Please make any checks out to St. Michael’s, we cannot accept checks made out to a 3rd party.**

THE GREAT VIGIL OF EASTER
Saturday, April 16, 8:00 pm
The service begins in darkness with the lighting of the New Fire and vigil readings. It moves through baptism from Lent to Easter, from death to life, to the first Easter celebration of Holy Eucharist. Smuggle in your favorite Easter treat (see below).

THE SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION: EASTER DAY
Sunday, April 17, 10:00 am
On Easter Day we celebrate Jesus’ triumph through death, and baptize Eleanor Jane Scroggins into the Body of Christ. Cupcakes + festive reception to follow.

And what will YOU Smuggle?

This year at the Easter Vigil, in addition to the bells we will bring to the Easter Vigil, we are all invited to smuggle in and present at the Offertory something symbolic to us of the joy of Easter; something that we are willing to share with everyone else at the party following the Great Easter Vigil.

Tuck that special bottle of wine under your topcoat. Drape your grandmother’s famous apple dumplings with a kitchen towel and sneak them into church. Bring a basket full of the most gorgeous strawberries you’ve ever laid eyes upon. Don’t forget about Belgian chocolates!

At the Offertory, we will have a special altar set up by the regular altar where we will offer up our Easter items, and enjoy them after the service!
