Holy Week and Easter 2023

The week leading up to Easter Day is filled with drama, story, and some of the most powerful liturgy in the Church. Scroll down for descriptions of each liturgy

RECONCILIATION OF A PENITENT (aka Confession)
can be offered at any time, contact Elizabeth to schedule

SUNDAY OF THE PASSION: PALM SUNDAY
Sunday, April 2
10am, hybrid
From palms to the passion, we welcome Jesus as our King, only to hand him over to be crucified by the end of the liturgy. This service marks the beginning of Holy Week.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS
Tuesday April 4
6:30pm, in person only
This devotion, offered by the Daughters of the King, recalls the series of events at the end of Jesus’ life and walks us through the Passion story.

MAUNDY THURSDAY
Thursday, April 6th
6:30pm, hybrid
The focus of this liturgy is Jesus’s command, or “mandatum,” to love as he loved. You will be invited to wash one another’s feet as a demonstration of this commitment to love and serve, then strip the altar in silence as we enter further into the drama of Holy Week.

GOOD FRIDAY
Friday, April 7th
6:30pm, hybrid
On Good Friday, we respond in silence, awe, and prayer to our Lord’s trial, suffering, and death. A special offering will be taken to support the ministry of the Diocese of Jerusalem. **Please make any checks out to St. Michael’s, we cannot accept checks made out to a 3rd party.**

HOLY SATURDAY

This simple, 5 minute service happens during a pause of decorating the church.

THE GREAT VIGIL OF EASTER

The service begins in darkness with the lighting of the New Fire and vigil readings. During this liturgy, we move through baptism from Lent to Easter, from death to life, to the first Easter celebration of Holy Eucharist. THE EASTER SMUGGLE PARTY
